CLOSING THE DOORS

It's with heavy hearts that we have to announce that our sale 356 was the final sale for Downeast Stamps. Gil took a hard fall in April and, despite Scott's dedicated assistance, is no longer physically able to meet the demands of reviewing thousands of lots and assembling six or seven catalogues a year. He will have his 93d birthday in July.

We are settling accounts with buyers and sellers for sale 356 and have completed sending lots for sale 356 to winning bidders. In our office we still have material from many consigners and will be making arrangements for its return.

Until Memorial Day (May 31), we will be in the office from noon to 5:00 p.m., answering phones and emails. After that we'll post an updated schedule here.

Thank you for your custom and your loyalty. Over the years, we have made many friends who have helped turn a hobby into a business that has supported the Roderick family for nearly 50 years. Thanks.

We are a quality stamp auction house serving collectors and dealers since 1975. We strive to provide accurate descriptions, realistic estimates, and a no-nonsense return policy. Most lots in our sales are from consignors, but some material we own outright. We are always looking for new material and invite you to submit your quality items (collections or individual stamps and covers) for consignment or outright purchase.

We hold six auctions each year. In each auction we try to provide a wide range of stamps, covers and collections with appeal to the most meticulous collector as well as to the beginner and bargain hunter. Printed catalogs are mailed about one month prior to each sale; the on-line catalog is available several weeks earlier.

Although many bidders submit bids through the Stamp Auction Network (SAN), about 80% of our bids are received by postal mail, email, fax, and phone. For bidders on the SAN website, that means you may not be seeing the current high bid on a lot, and you may want to submit your highest bid at once. If your bid tops the the next highest bid, you will be charged only one bid increment over that bid (see our How To Bid page).

We are proud to honor, and to observe in all our business dealings, the American Philatelic Society's (APS) Code of Ethics and Internet Code of Ethics.

Customer satisfaction is our primary goal. If you are unhappy, we are unhappy. We hope you will come to enjoy the personal service we have offered to our customers over the years.
